  • Welcome! My name is Willem Blom. I will update you with all the latest wireless news from Korea. I have been in Korea several times, first as a student and later as a research consultant, and am surprised by its advanced mobile environment. My experience in the mobile marketplace includes a project in Korea for KPN Royal Dutch Telecom, and several research projects for the RSM Erasmus University. I hope you enjoy reading my weblog.

KTF generates lot of interest for mobile role-playing game

Mobile games are doing very well in Korea -- "KTF launched the first phone-based online role-playing game Imo: The World of Magic on June 8. The company said more than 42,000 mobile users have downloaded the game with the number of peak-time users exceeding 1,000, only after 10 days of service." KTF will charge about US$5 per month for the game, and SK Telecom will launch the game as well. No complaints about that, but there are concerns in Sth Korea about people becoming addicted to online massively multiplayer games (there have been reports of people dying because of this, but its hard to judge the veracity of the reports) and there are concerns that mobile multiplayer games will only exacerbate things.
