SK Telecom introduces Mobile-only Instant Messenger

SK Telecom has launched a mobile-exclusive messenger M Messenger based on telephone list stored in handsets. The user interface is in the form of chat windows, web-like environment where emoticons and flashcons can be used. No separate registration of contacts is necessary, an SK official said. The service is primarily aimed at text messaging teenagers looking for faster, more fluid way to communicate. The company explained that while SMS is popular, it lacks instantaneity. Meanwhile, IM lacks mobility. Therefore, SK Telecom's M Messenger was developed to enable use of instant messaging while on the move.
